Scholarship for Jullaion Jones

After making the decision to fund the building of a school in Cambodia, we felt like we needed to make a contribution locally.  So we started looking at the idea of providing scholarships to students in need.  Many different ideas went through our minds on what type of student should be eligible for our scholarship, but the idea of having to take applications from people who we would more often have to turn down was depressing.

That’s about the time we read an article about a remarkable young man named Jullaion Jones.  Jullaion is a student at DeLaSalle High School in Kansas City, MO., and a member of their basketball team.  On January 30th, during a basketball game, a gang shooting took place that injured 5 people.  Jullaion was hit when he covered a 6-year-old boys body with his own, to protect him from the gunfire.  We were extremely impressed that in a moment of chaos and fear, Jullaion showed such remarkable character.

We have committed to a $5,000 scholarship for Jullaion to help him pay for college.  We here at USWeb feel that if you give someone of Jullaion’s character an advanced education, there is no telling how far he will go, and what contributions he may make.  Jullaion has expressed an interest in architecture, and we hope he pursues his dream.
